  • Fall festival

The kids daycare center held it's fall festival this evening.  So you all get a sneak peak at the Lang kid's Halloween costumes.

Kiddo chose to be a knight, he has all the bits and pieces in his dress up box so nice and easy for us.  Granny and Grandpa bought Little Lady a flamenco dress on their vacation to Spain this year, so yippee - I didn't have to buy or make a thing for their costumes this year!

  • Fall fun

Here are the photos from the pumpkin patch on Friday, cubscout camp Saturday/Sunday and the Wichita Mountains on Sunday.

  • Back from camp.

The whole family joined some of kiddo's cubscout troop this weekend for a family camp out at Camp George Thomas in SW Oklahoma.  It was lots of fun and the weather was just right.  Overnight lows were in the 40s and highs were in the low 70s.

We left at lunchtime Friday and stopped at a pumpkin patch on our way down. Saturday we were up at 6.30 and on the go with crafts, nature scavenger hunts, a hike and a tractor ride.  The theme of camp this year was France so we learned some French history too.  The food was ok, not great but the kids ate most of it.  I brought a can of tuna since I knew I'd never get them to eat spaghetti and meat sauce for Saturday dinner.

I heard coyote, elk and owls from our tent in the wee hours of Saturday.  Saturday night was windier so we didn't hear critters but it kept the tent a lot drier from condensation which was a bonus for packing up on Sunday morning.

We headed a little further south Sunday for a family hike in the Wichita Mountains.  The kids managed to get to the top of a hill called Little Baldy.  All too soon it was time to come home, Daddy has work today.

The kids are off school today for their last day of fall break and I am too.  Hopefully I'll get caught up with my photos!

  • Little Lady

Sometimes you just have a hunch, right?  So when little lady called  "Mommy, come here" from her room I had a feeling she had a suprise for me.  I think I might have said "YIKES"

She found her princess make up from our Disney trip and decided she was giving herself a makeover.  It matches her leotard nicely.  I think our girl might to change her career path to being a performer with Cirque du Soleil!

  • Fall festival

Our neighborhood holds a fall festival each year.  It's lots of fun with games, a hayride and new this year, a chili cookoff.

After all the festivities, we hung out with the ducks for a bit.  Then the kids went tree climbing and jumped off their favorite rocks!

The first duck is known to our family as Little Ducky, she grew up all alone on the pond last year.  I never did see her with a Momma duck.

  • Little River Zoo and Lake Thunderbird

We had originally planned to go to the  Wichita Mountains yesterday, but the temperatures were just too hot to go hiking there.  So we decided to take a trip down to Norman, about an hour's drive from us.  Poor Little Lady felt car sick most of the way.  She didn't throw up thankfully, as I had forgotten to pack a change of clothes for either of the kids.

Little River zoo is home to about 400 animals, most of them are rescue animals.  We got to walk in with the kangaroos and feed them.

I don't really like seeing monkeys caged but they probably have a better life at the zoo than they had previously.

Kiddo was in his element and he was full of questions and touched any animal he was allowed to.  I think we have a zoo keeper or veterinarian in the making.

This serval kitten was kind of wild, he was teething so anything was fair game to be chewed.  He tried to go for kiddo's hand when he was petting him.  Fortunately having had our own cats has given Kiddo lightning reflexes and he pulled his hand away before the Serval could bite him.

Howling coyote, the zoo tour guide had our group howl and the coyotes joined in too.

We brought a picnic lunch with us and drove 4 miles further east to Lake Thunderbird to eat.

We completely forgot to bring bathing suits and towels for the kids or even a change of clothes.  They got soaked (of course!)  so they had to sit on sweaters on the way home in the car!

  • Busy, busy, busy.

Sorry for neglecting you all.  When I've not been working I have been super busy with our houseguests, plus all the extra stuff that comes with having both kids in school (even the little one has weekly homework from kindergarten).  Oh, and I am forgetting cubs and gymnastics too!  What computer time I have managed to get has been taken up with editing photos.

I took Mum and Dad to the botanic gardens in downtown on Thursday, there were lots and lots of beautiful flowers and leaves for me to photograph!

We took a trip down to Norman today to the Little River Zoo and Lake Thunderbird, photos to follow when I get a chance to work on them!!

  • Martin Park plants and creatures

My Mum and Dad are over from Scotland for 12 days. I took them to Martin Nature Park for a  walk yesterday morning before we picked up little lady from school.  Kiddo was not amused that his sis was getting more Granny and Grandpa time than him, but she has a birthday party tomorrow so he'll get them all to himself!

This is a jumping spider that lives in our patio furniture, she was quite willing to pose for me, you don't really see her green mouth parts.

    And now onto Martin Park.

  • Girl in a rainbow dress

Little lady's kindergarten teacher has a fantastic website with lots of updates and photos of our wee ones.

I was checking it this morning and recognized Little Lady's work right away (the flowers and blue eyes gave it away)..... so for your viewing pleasure I'm posting  RDS (Rainbow Dress)
