Happy Zoo Year!
On Christmas Eve, we had a blizzard drop 14 inches of snow on us here in Oklahoma City. This really put a cramp in our plans to get out and about during our vacation, but we had plenty to keep us busy at home.
We decided that we would take a trip to the zoo today, in spite of the below freezing temperatures. We hopped from indoor exhibit to indoor exhibit. It was lots of fun and the kids enjoyed seeing animals like snakes and lizards that don’t normally take center stage on a zoo visit on a milder day.The squirrels were out in full force. We fondly refer to them as “firrels”, a term coined by Little Lady when she was two.
From the Herpetarium and Island Life exhibits.
Oklahoma Trails was open and we figured this would be a good choice since it has 2 indoor exhibits where we could thaw out a bit.
It was so cold that the kids were even amenable to going into the Pachyderm House, it’s pretty stinky in there! Where else can you see a Rhino pee then drink it! Eww!!
It was fun to see the lion tamarins , we tend to forget about them tucked in the corner of the pachyderm house.
After 2 hours we had enough and headed home via the store, where we got donuts for the kids afternoon snack to go along with some hot chocolate – yummy!!
